ExpressPoint also offers a low cost, multi-vendor repair option from our state-of-the-art repair depot in Juarez, Mexico and parts distribution facility in El Paso, TX. These facilities are a part of our ongoing initiative to continue offering industry leading repair quality and service parts logistics fulfillment at the lowest cost. Both facilities carry the same level of quality ISO 9001:2000 certification our customers depend on from our Minnesota facility.
ExpressPoint competes in a global economy which requires price competitive operations. When the Company was approached by its largest customer to establish operations in the US/ Mexico border region, the company researched options and decided to establish a maquiladora. A maquiladora or maquila is a factory that imports materials and equipment on a duty-free and tariff-free basis for assembly or manufacturing and then re-exports the assembled product; usually back to the originating country.
After careful research on geographic options throughout the US/ Mexico border regions, the company decided on the Juarez and El Paso region for one key reason. Our research clearly told us to find the right shelter provider that would provide the quality of workforce and services required for a successful operation. After a comprehensive selection process, ExpressPoint choose TECMA/IMS as our shelter provider. Today, ExpressPoint has a world-class operation in Juarez and El Paso as measured by our customers. One key metric measured in a maquila is employee retention. The highest turnover is after the Christmas holiday. It is not unusual for 25-30% of the employees not return as many employees return to their homelands in central Mexico. ExpressPoint had 100% of our maquila employees return after Christmas this last year – truly a testament to our the excellence of our partnership with TECMA/IMS.
